2024 Past Events Details

5th October 2024 - Joint Concert with the Linlithgow RFC Male Voice Choir

Our hosts for our short Scottish tour was the Linlithgow RFC MVC who looked after us wonderfully throughout our stay in Linlithgow. We sang in the cathedral sized St Michael's church in Linlithgow, reputed to be one of the biggest parish churches in the UK. Many thanks to our brilliant solo singers, Terry Murphy, Simon Bilous, John Hensman and our narrator Brian Wetton. Three recordings from the concert below:

  • The Sloop John B, arranged by Matthew Sharp

  • Bui Doi (Miss Saigon); arranged by John Trent Wallace); soloist John Hensman

  • Wild Mountain Thyme; arranged by Matthew Sharp; soloists Terry Murphy and Simon Bilous respectively

4th October 2024 - Lunchtime Recital in St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh

As far as lunchtime recitals go, this must feature near the top of the list. We sang beautifully under the ever-watchful and precise direction of our joint musical directors Barrie Cooper and Matthew Sharp. A packed, appreciative audience of "passers-by" stayed throughout our performance, applauding energetically after each of our songs and even more-so at the end of the extremely entertaining piano duet by Barrie Cooper & Matthew Sharp. A day to remember! Many thanks to our brilliant soloists, Graeme Cook & Simon Bilous and narration by Brian Wetton.

Below is the DMVC version of the very poignant "This Is My Song", sung in St Giles Cathedral. Unusually, we've added the words to the video as they are so pertinent to the times in which we live and this brought great relevancy to the singing of this song. The audience loved it!

13th September 2024 - Joint Concert with the Innsworth Military Wives Choir

Well, can anything better singing with the Innsworth Military Wives Choir in the unbelievably impressive Malmesbury Abbey. A fantastic evening of music in a such a wow venue. Afterwards. we all went home smiling and extremely happy

25th June 2024 - Singing for our Sponsors - The Hollies Care Centre

A chance to say "Thank You" to one of our principal sponsors, the Hollies Care Centre, Dursley. On a very hot afternoon, we sang to residents and staff of the care home. A great al fresco event, enjoyed by all.

30th May 2024 - Social Singing at Stinchcombe Golf Club

One of those "why not?" evenings where we sang on behalf of the golf club members at the leaving party of the club's stewardess and of course, it provided an opportunity for a most enjoyable social get-together.

18th May 2024 - Annual Concert with our guest Katie Jenner

Another wholly successful and immensely enjoyable Annual Concert in St James' church, Dursley. Another packed house with standing room only!

The atmosphere was electric, the singing brilliant and the clarinet and saxophone playing by Katie Jenner, astounding.

After joining the choir as accompanist in 2001 and taking on the prime role of musical director in 2003, Barrie Cooper had led the choir through many, many concerts, recitals, festivals, competitions, several tours, both home and abroad.

The Chairman, Laurence Bryant took this opportunity to reward his dedication to the choir and his patience to teach us to sing together so well, with a Honorary Life Membership.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH BARRIE COOPER

24th April 2024 - Joint Concert with the Rednock Swing Band

A joyous evening of traditional swing music and much more from the Rednock Swing Band interspersed with seven songs from the 2024 repertoire of the Dursley Male Voice Choir. An appreciative audience, all happy to be fundraising for the band's Three Countries Tour 2024 (Belguim, Germany and Holland).

16th April 2024 - Bristol Cathedral, College Green, Bristol

A splendid start to 2024 with a lunchtime recital in Bristol Cathedral.  What a lovely place to sing. It was the start of the Cathedral's music season and was well supported by a very appreciative audience.
