Choir PrincipalsCo-Musical Director - Barrie Cooper (L.R.S.M)Barrie had his first piano lesson over 50 years ago at Marling School in Stroud. After gaining a degree in French at Reading University, he embarked on a career in teaching in Lincolnshire. During the next 30 years he was accompanist and occasional conductor of two choirs and MD of an Amateur Operatic Society, as well as being official accompanist at three music festivals in East Yorkshire.
After retirement he returned to Gloucestershire where he is accompanist for another local choir, as well as being Musical Director of this choir. He has made numerous choral arrangements and composed two major works for mixed choirs. He now regularly arranges pieces for performance by Dursley Male Voice Choir.
Barrie has an outstanding record of success in competitions and recently at the Cheltenham Festival achieved the unprecedented accolade of winning all five open pianoforte classes performing a wide range of music. There were seven to ten entries for each category and the result has been his long-held ambition for the Festival.
