Dursley Male Voice Choir

Director
Barrie had his first piano lesson over 50 years ago at Marling School in
Stroud. After gaining a degree in French at Reading University he
embarked on a career in teaching in Lincolnshire. During the next 30
years he was accompanist and occasional conductor of two choirs and MD
of an Amateur Operatic Society, as well as being official accompanist at
3 music festivals in East Yorkshire. After retirement he returned to
Gloucestershire where he now plays for the Stuart Singers in
Minchinhampton as well as being Music Director for the Dursley Male
Voice Choir. He has made numerous choral arrangements and composed 2
major works for mixed choirs. He now regularly arranges pieces for
performance by Dursley Male Voice Choir.
Paul
Phillips -
Piano Principal Accompanist
Paul
started playing the piano at the age of 6 and achieved Grade 8 with the
Trinity College of Music when he was 18.
He has lived in Dursley all his working life and has been teaching piano
locally for a number of years.
He joined the Dursley Male Voice Choir in 1998 as a chorister and became
Deputy Accompanist in 2002. He was subsequently appointed Principal
Accompanist in 2003.
Paul is also involved in other local choral societies and is resident
organist at Coaley and Lower Cam Parish Churches.
Brian
Parslow - Deputy Music Director
Brian
joined the choir in April 1979, soon after its first concert. He was
born and brought up in Wales and is steeped in the tradition of choral
singing since his earliest days. He moved to Gloucestershire in the
60's and has lived in Dursley ever since. He took on the role of
Librarian to the choir soon after joining, and continues to hold that
position. Originally a Baritone, he moved to the Bass section many
years ago where he sings now. He is an occasional soloist with the
choir, having taken the lead in such varied songs as The Lord High
Executioner and Abide with Me. |
